Trip to Temburong district

12th July 2008

Brunei is a unique country. It consists of four districts, but one of them is separated from the other three, and reaching the Temburong district is either by boat or by car. What's amazing is that in order to drive to Temburong, we have to pass through Limbang which is a town within the neighbouring country, Malaysia. Unique isn't it? To reach our own country, passports are required!

And what's even more amazing, the border dividing Limbang and Temburong is a river, and vehicles have to go on board a ferry, alternatively run by both countries. After the Temburong district, vehicles can drive straight into Malaysia again, and the route is always busy especially during school holidays. We went through that 7 hour journey once, for a holiday in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It's a really fun experience!

The ferry... this picture was taken on Malaysian soil, and right across the river is Brunei (Temburong district).

All types of vehicles can board the ferry. Ours is the Toyota Hilux on the left, recently bought by nini laki.

Ohh.. almost forgot, the ferry is not a free ride! Hehehe...
