Our first 'Sungkai' in Brisbane

01 September 2008

Welcome September, and more importantly, welcome Ramadan!

For the first time, we celebrate the month in Brisbane. Mummy has spent Ramadan for years in Malaysia, but the surroundings is not that much different from Brunei, especially that almost everyone is fasting. The situation here is very much different, for sure!

However, on the positive side ... the fasting period during the day is lesser, since the sun sets around half past five (in Brunei it's usually around half past six). The moderately cool weather is also a plus!

So ... here are the pictures of our first 'sungkai' (literally translated as break fast) in Brisbane. On the menu: rice with fish 'ampap', chilli and prawns sambal, vegetables, sweet corns and Mung Beans porridge or as we call it; Bubur Kacang Hijau. Thanks also to the Muslim Business Network for the complimentary dates.
