Safiya's artistic talent on display

As part of our school's attempt at showcasing our students' abilities, JIS is currently holding its annual Art & Design Technology at the Atrium level, The Empire Hotel and Country Club.

To our delightful surprise, daddy received a notification that Safiya's painting has been chosen as one of the displays at this year's exhibition. The opening ceremony was held last night at 7 p.m. and we were invited to attend. However, we decided to show up a bit late to let all the crowd subside and have the time to ourselves enjoying Safiya's painting.

We were all anxious since nobody has seen the painting that Safiya has created. As soon as we arrived, we straight away searched for it - with Safiya happily smiling as she led the search. At last, we found it. It was really cute!

After that, we took the opportunity to browse through all the other art works and design. They are all excellently done and really show that the students got talent. As we were walking around, we had a surprise. We were told that only Safiya's painting was on display, but we saw another of her work. This time, it's an art design - woven wool. We are definitely proud of our little girl, no doubt about that.

Any of you who are interested can go visit the Empire Hotel. The exhibition lasts until 20th June so don't wait up! Hehehe...

Attending a wedding at Rizqun

Last night, our parents brought Safiya and I to the Rizqun International Hotel to attend the wedding reception of daddy's friend during his student life in Nottingham, UK. While waiting for the ceremony to start, mummy took some pictures just for fun.

Watching the FIFA World Cup in HD

Who hasn't heard of this year's World Cup in South Africa? Everybody is talking about it, especially that this year the entire season is broadcasted in HD. As for us, we are thankful that our parents bought two HD televisions when we first moved into our home. Luckily too that our local television (RTB) has its own HD channel (only for HD tvs) and has subscribed the FIFA World Cup to be shown here. Two thumbs up for RTB! Hehehe...

She would have been 59

June always reminds us of lots of birthdays to celebrate, one of which was our late grandmother's. Today, she would have been 59 and surely she would have been happy surrounded by her grandchildren. However, Allah loves her more than us and she finally lost in her battle with cancer in 2004 (a few months before I was born).

We'll always remember you, Po Po.

Mummy received an email about a dangerous plant that can cause fatality. It actually looks very familiar and is common to be seen anywhere in Brunei. Just thought of sharing this with all of you. Thanks to Umi Lizam for sharing the information. Here's the extract of the email:

"Dear all, Please read below. The message is true. I almost lost my daughter who put a piece of the leaf of this plant in her mouth and her tongue swelled to the point of suffocation. This is one plant but there are others with the same characteristics of coloring. Those are also poisonous and we should get rid of them. Please watch out for our children. As we all leave our children home in the hands of the helpers, we should give them a safe environment where they can play".

This plant that we have in our homes and offices is extremely dangerous!

It is a deadly poison, mainly for the children. It can kill a kid in less than a minute and an adult in 15 minutes. It should be uprooted from gardens and taken out of offices. If touched, one should never touch ones eyes; it can cause partial or permanent blindness. Please alert your buddies.

Sleepy moments

We love watching our baby brother sleeping. He looks cute and cuddly, including when he stretches his body. He is growing bigger day by day, and at just under 3 months, he now shows his sad face every time mummy leaves home for work. Of course, he's the happiest once she arrives back home!

Brunei Halal Expo

Alright, we didn't actually go to the expo - perhaps mummy and daddy didn't have the time. Thankfully, our aunt did go and she bought for us some treats. We had two types of Brunei delicacies; kuih sapit and maruku tahai. In addition, she also bought some fresh lychees (or also known as litchi) which tastes awesome. Thanks Machar!

Pleasurable stay in Gadong

Last March when daddy and I attended the BSP Emblem Night, we won a lucky draw prize - a one night stay at the Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong. Since yesterday was a public holiday, daddy and mummy decided to take the opportunity to use the voucher. After all, it only had a 3 month validity and was about to expire by this weekend.

We checked in quite late in the afternoon at around 3 p.m. since daddy and mummy needed to catch up with some sleep after a sleepless night helping out nini laki and nini bini with their new catering business.


Right after check in, Safiya and I went for a swim at the hotel swimming pool. Thankfully, there were two pools - one for adults and another for kids. While we enjoyed our dip, daddy became the "lifeguard" as mummy and baby Safwan watched. Then, we had dinner at the Jaya Hypermart food court located right under the hotel.

The following morning, we woke up early. Luckily, the wash basin was huge -- baby Safwan had fun bathing in it! Hehehe... and he looked cute being wrapped up in the towel which kind of reminded us of the day he was born.

Afterwards, we had breakfast at the famous Seasons restaurant. After a satisfying meal, we headed home because there was a wedding to attend at noon.

Overall, it was lots of fun. Such a great way to relax and unwind!
